Carnaval Parade

We didn't plan it, but we were pretty thrilled to find out that our time in Cozumel fell perfectly into their Carnaval schedule. The weekend before Fat Tuesday Cozumel celebrates Mardi Gras and calls it the Cozumel Carnaval. Every night was a huge party but it was nothing compared to Tuesday night's celebration.

They had a parade every night, fireworks, and dances until like 6 AM. It was crazy but tons of fun! They costumes were so elaborate and their floats were huge and just as incredible. I loved that unlike American parades everyone danced on the floats. They didn't just stand and wave; they blasted the music and danced and danced and danced. I think I was most impressed by the little kids because the parade lasted like three hours every night. Can you imagine!? I swear they must plan all year for this. They closed off the streets every day, randomly throughout the day and dancers in incredible costumes would perform flawless routines. We absolutely loved it!
