Cycling Antelope Island

I can't remember biking since Lotoja 2010. So a year and a half later, I pulled out my jersey's, my padded bike shorts, and my bike. Sadly, the tires were completely flat and there were cobwebs all over :( Poor bike.  Just getting it out of the shed got me SO EXCITED though. Just seeing my bike made me think, "I can't wait another day to bike, I am going tonight!" So after I cleaned it up a little and pumped up the tires, I started out towards Antelope Island.

I wasn't sure how much time I would have but I biked from my house and across the causeway. I decided that I had enough time so I would ride on the 4-mile loop around Antelope Island as well.
It was so beautiful. People have commented on the stench of the water and on the bugs - but really, neither bothered me. I could smell the water when I started across the causeway, but a little further in, I didn't notice it at all. And the bugs had eaten me alive a few days prior when I went out there with Mike, but I don't think I got one bite while I was biking.
There were a couple of bison along the side of the road - one had it's butt towards me and the other was looking straight at me. As I biked past him, I could see his eyes following me. I videoed it, and although I don't think you can tell that his eyes were following me in the video, it still made me a bit nervous. So I went home and looked up "Bison Attacks" on You Tube. Seems Bison are fairly passive until they get spooked and then they will attack. But I did see a few videos of Bison ramming cyclists. I will still bike Antelope Island, I just hope that nothing spooks the Bison as I ride past because I know they could out run me.
Anyway, a few pictures that I took as I was biking along.
It was a beautiful day and so great to be out biking again.
I can't wait for more rides to come this year!

Text Humor

It's Friday April 27 and in Northern Utah, it's apparently the perfect date for snow.

Two days ago was the perfect date as described on the movie Miss Congeniality. "April 25 because it's not too hot and not too cold; all you need is a light jacket." (I wonder what she would say if she lived in Utah.)
Ha! I feel completely justified in taking the day to ignore the snow and lay in bed reading "Reader's Digest."

I came across some excerpts that Reader's Digest had pulled from a book of text messages between parents and children. They have a website: crazythingsparentstext.com. I haven't been there yet, but I will definitely be browsing it later. Anyway, I thought I would share the ones printed in the March 2012 Reader's Digest because I enjoyed them.

My favorite:

Me: What time are you picking me up?
Dad: Who is this?
Me: Your son.
Dad: How did you get this number?
Me: I programmed your phone, remember?
Dad: How do I delete people?

HAHAHAHA!

Anyway, here are the others, not as funny, but they should at least make you smile on this cold, snowy April day :)

Mom: Your father is driving me crazy. When are you coming home?
Me: I'm out with friends so not till late. Sorry!
Mom: It's OK. I put Ambien in his tea. He won't be annoying me much longer.

Me: Can I borrow 50 bucks?
Mom: You don't call to say hi, you didn't call on my birthday. All you ever call for is money!
Me: 40 bucks?
Mom: OK.

Me: Hey!
Dad: Aren't you supposed to be at school?
Me: Aren't you supposed to be at work?
Dad: Touche...

Me: Happy 49th, Dad! I love you so much!
Dad: It's 48! You ruined my day.

Mom: Come downstairs and talk to me please. I'm lonely.
Me: Isn't Dad there?
Mom: Yes, but I like you more.

WAIT...

I just browsed the website and found a couple more funny ones... (Some are stupid so beware.)

Dad: Dinner and a movie?
Me: Sure.
Dad: Can I put it on Facebook?
Me: Put what up?
Dad: That were going out.
Me: Um... if you feel the need to.

Mom: HI MOM!!!! How are you? I miss You Im good Love you! -Emily
Mom: Can you forward me that last text?

Mom: <3 for dinner
Me: Yes I always love dinner.
Mom: Doesn't that mean ice cream?

:) I hope you all have a great weekend!

Antelope Island Bison

The day after my birthday I decided to take Mike to Antelope Island since it is my new favorite place in the area and he has never been there!
As soon as we got there we hadn't driven one mile before we saw a herd of deer. They were fun to see but nothing will compare to the ones that we saw (and got SO CLOSE TO) in Zion's National Park.
Afterwards we drove a little further and I was so excited to see a couple of Bison right off the road.
But that excitement wore off very quickly when one walked right in front of our car.
I felt like with one wrong move it would ram our car.
We decided to drive down by the water and it was beautiful.
Another fun surprise about being down by the water - we found ourselves in the middle of a herd of bison.
Literally, they were feet away from our vehicle. We had our windows down and they probably could have stuck their heads in if they wanted :)
Some of them were sleeping, which was fun.

It was a beautiful evening on the island and we had a great time visit. Until next time!

Antelope Island

Can you believe we woke up to snow on April 6!? That's pure madness. Luckily for me, it was my Friday off - so I got to do something to enjoy it :0) I decided to go to Antelope Island since it is so close to where I live, and I made a goal to make more of an effort to enjoy the things around where I live.
Anndee was nice enough to come with me on her spring break so that we could enjoy some roommate together time ;0)
Despite the snow, it was a perfect spring day.

I don't think I have been to Antelope Island since I was a kid - well except the Salt Lake Century bike ride two years ago - but that hardly counts because I didn't really get to enjoy the area.
Before we had gotten to far in we spotted a herd of Antelopes.
I liked the way this Antelope looked at us like, "Uh-oh.. we've been caught." lol.
We saw a Coyote fairly close to where we were driving.
It ran down towards the water.
Then we heard some whining - followed the noise, and noticed two other Coyotes playing and lounging in the water. Anndee and I both said that our favorite part of the day was hearing the Coyotes talk.

We passed a herd of Bison sunbathing in the snow.
And then we passed another herd of Bison, standing up grazing for food.
It was a beautiful day and so much fun seeing all the animals at Antelope Island.

It really is a beautiful place. I am excited to go there more often!
