Utah Arts Festival 2011

Mike and I went to the Utah Arts Festival. It was really fun. Like a glorified Summerfest, which I was sad to miss in Logan this year. Nonetheless, we got to see many of the same artists (i have seen them at Summerfest in past years) and experience a whole new event.

We went Saturday after my scuba diving certification final dive (woot!). We walked by the booths and looked at the art, watched a demonstration on how to make Prairie Glass, walked around some more looked at the unusual art, watched Wise Guys Comedians, walked around more looking arandom art, watched some short films and voted on our favorite and ended the night with a concert that Mike wanted to see: Fictionist. They were good and actually they are yet another band from Provo, Utah. I am impressed with all the bands that are coming forth from Provo. Here is an article from Rolling Stones on them talking about how they all met at BYU.

Anyway, I forgot my camera but here are some pictures from my phone - poor quality - sorry.
Mike & I

Mini Top Hats - I thought "Who would wear these?!" But don't worry, we saw some people wearing them around so obviously some people would.
Also, don't worry about the "No Photo" sign in the background. I didn't see that until just now.
DANGIT!

The Kids Art Garden Area

This was something called "Yarn Bombing." I should have taken more pictures of it. A group of women had knitted material over this car, onto the benches, around the parking meters and trees, and into the fences everything. Sometimes you could see a seam, but other times, they had done so well it was like - where's the seam?! Anyway, the car was completely covered with a knitted car cover - so crazy!

Videos of Wise Guys Comedy (again sorry - taken with my cell phone - poor quality)

Mike watching the concert. He is soooo handsome.

I think that this is pretty self explanatory. If you know me... 40 hours a week...

Blogging

While I wish this was truly what I am doing - I have just been so stinking busy the last couple of weeks. Hopefully this all ends tomorrow night because I have so much I need to post before I have forgotten what I've done.

Hope you're all doing well.

Quick Wits

Mike & I saw Quick Wits at an engagement party (more on that later). We liked them so much that we decided to go see them at their theater in Midvale. We went last Saturday night with Mike's best friend from high school and his wife. It actually worked our perfect because it was Dustin's birthday the next day so it was a great celebration.

I am always skeptical of comedians because it takes a lot to make me laugh. I laugh a lot on the inside but to make me actually laugh out loud... that takes a little more effort than it does with most people. But when we were at the Quick Wits show I laughed out loud SO MUCH! I absolutely loved it!!! I can't wait for next time. If anyone wants to double - let me know! We have a buy 1 get 1 free coupon! Woot!!!!

Anyway, here is a video of the comedians at the engagement party (no video allowed in the actual theater. boo).

**************Shoot! I just realized if you don't watch this in wide screen part of it will get cut off. I recorded it in wide screen so... if part of it is getting cut off - then it won't be very funny.... Sorry. **************************************************

Sara's Baby Shower

The other day at work we threw a shower for one of my dearest coworkers and friends. She is due with her little baby boy on June 16. They are waiting until they meet him to give him a name but I am sure it will be Gavin, so that's what I call him. The shower was a lot of hard work but completely awesome. It definitely would not have been as great if all my other co-workers wouldn't have chipped in to help.

We had incredible food:

Yummy cupcakes from Vintage Cupcake Factory:

Sara wanted one of these kinds ("Batter Than Anything"), which is why one is missing.

Awesome Games:

and lots of fun watching her open gifts:

and below: trying the clothes on the baby ;0)

The funniest moment came from Kim's gift.
She has always called Sara's baby "Georg" (pronounced 'Gay-Org') and then she says, "Fine, name him Jacob Edward or Edward Jacob." Because Sara is a Twilight fan. So she gives Sara this gift:
a bag addressed to George
Sara was clearly - not amused during the opening
and a Jacob Edward onsie
Then she tells her, "okay, okay. I have your real gift..." and proceeds to give it to her. It's a pretty great gift and I am glad the one video I made of the shower happened to be of that moment!
We had a blast and it was definitely a shower to remember :0)

Jordan River Temple

I had never been to the Jordan River temple before, but on March 19 Whitney went through to get her endowments. It was a beautiful temple and I am very excited for her. She accepted a mission call to Portland, Oregon. She is very excited and I am sure that she will be an amazing missionary! I can't wait to hear all the wonderful missionary moments of the people that she teaches and the things she experiences!

"The temple was a place of learning for the Savior when He was on the earth; it was very much a part of His life. Temple blessings are available once again in our day."
—James E. Faust

"Temples are places of personal revelation. When I have been weighed down by a problem or a difficulty, I have gone to the House of the Lord with a prayer in my heart for answers. The answers have come in clear and unmistakable ways."
—Ezra Taft Benson

"I urge all who have not yet received these greatest of all blessings within the walls of the temple to do whatever may be necessary to qualify to receive them."
—James E. Faust

"When you come to the temple you will love your family with a deeper love than you have ever felt before. The temple is about families."
—Richard H. Winkel

"I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually."
—I Kings 9:3

"The temple is concerned with things of immortality. It is a bridge between this life and the next. All of the ordinances that take place in the house of the Lord are expressions of our belief in the immortality of the human soul."
—Gordon B. Hinckley

"A temple is a place in which those whom He has chosen are endowed with power from on high—a power which enables us to use our gifts and capabilities…to bring to pass our Heavenly Father's purposes in our own lives and the lives of those we love."
—David B. Haight

"The temple is the house of the Lord. The basis for every temple ordinance and covenant…is the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Every activity, every lesson, all we do in the Church, point to the Lord and His holy house."
—Russell M. Nelson

"I know your lives are busy. I know that you have much to do. But I make you a promise that if you will go to the house of the Lord, you will be blessed; life will be better for you."
—Gordon B. Hinckley

I do love the temple and all of the great blessings that come from being able to go. I know that it is the Lord's house and that His spirit dwells there. I love that in the temples families can be sealed together for all of eternity. What a unique and special gift that is.

Congratulations Whitney. You will do wonderful as a missionary and how lucky you are to be able to share these wonderful truths with others. I am jealous.

Utah Blaze

On St. Patrick's Day Mike and I went to the Utah Blaze Arena Football game. It was really fun. I didn't know what to expect but I really liked it. Benefits of Arena football? You have a great view of the field - no matter what end zone they are closest to which means - excellent views of the touchdown dances! LoL. Seriously this was one of my favorite parts of the game: watching the touchdown dances. So fun!

To celebrate St. Patrick's Day we took a picture where everything was black and white and green! :0)

The Utah Blaze played the Tampa Bay Storm and beat them pretty badly.

During halftime we got to watch some BMX bikers perform. It was pretty awesome and incredible what they could do.

There was however, a little accident. Skip ahead 30 seconds if you just want to watch the wreck.
We had a lot of fun and we would definitely go to another game. Just a nice night out :0)
